During her recent “Bulletproof Your Immune System” presentation at Arise Chiropractic and Wellness in Vernon, Dr. Keegan Johnston offered some great tips on how to enhance the healing powers of the body. In addition to reducing sugar intake, while increasing water and water-rich food consumption (plant-based foods), she covered the importance of supplementing our diets with vitamin C and D.

Humans are among a small list of animals that cannot make their own vitamin C, along with bats, capybaras, some primates and guinea pigs. So, we must get ours from food and supplementation. Most of us are desperately low, so daily supplementation is a good idea. Try adding at least 1000 mg of vitamin C to your day (or 1000 mg to each meal if you're feeling under the weather).

Vitamin D is made in our skin from sun exposure. During winter months when the sun is hiding, take 1000 mg (one drop) of a sublingual vitamin D supplement each day. Vitamin D supports our bones and teeth, as well as our brain and immune function. It also helps regulate insulin levels and supports cardiovascular health.
